Sony Pictures Networks India announced on Thursday that it will air the Sgt. Frog (Sergeant Keroro) anime on Sony Yay as part of a new slate of programming.
The anime series based on Mine Yoshizaki's Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsō) manga ran from 2004 to 2011, and it spawned five feature films.
Discotek Media released the anime on Blu-ray Disc in North America and describes the story:
The frog-like Sergeant Keroro and his platoon are sent to Earth to scope out an invasion, but after a mishap, they're abandoned by the main force and taken in by an average teenager, Fuyuki Hinata, and his bossy big sister, Natsumi. Though plans for another invasion attempt proceed, Sarge soon settles into the rhythm of modern Tokyo and becomes addicted to anime and making plastic models. Meanwhile, the Hinata household is turned upside down.
American manga publisher Tokyopop previously released 20 volumes of the original manga in English.
Sony Yay currently airs children's anime such as Obocchama-kun and 1986's Robotan. It began airing the Naruto anime on August 15.
