The official website for the live-action film of Toshio Sako's Usogui (The Lie Eater) manga began streaming a new teaser trailer for the film on Wednesday. The trailer reveals five new cast members for the film, as well as the film's February 11 opening date.

The new cast members include:

  • Kanata Hongō (upper left in image above) as Kirō Mekama, an observer with both brains and brawn
  • Hiroaki Murakami (lower left) as Hikoichi Yakō, an observer alongside Kirō
  • Mai Shiraishi (center) as Ranko Kurama, a casino owner whose house always wins
  • Shōhei Miura (upper right) as Ikki Sadakuni, a mad scientist who steals both money and lives away from people of power
  • Kaito Sakurai (lower right) as Sōichi Kiruma, the "lord" at the peak of the gambling world

The film will open in February 2022.

The film stars Ryūsei Yokohama as the protagonist Baku Madarame. Hayato Sano plays Baku's partner Takaomi Kaji. Hideo Nakata (Ring, Dark Water, L change the WorLd) is directing the film.

The live-action film was announced in 2016.

The story of Usogui follows a brilliant gambler named Baku "Usogui" Madarame as he lays down his life as the wager for various games.

Sako began the Usogui manga in 2006, and ended it in December 2017. The manga has 49 volumes. Sako is planning to launch a spinoff manga of the main series. The series inspired an original video animation (OVA) bundled with the manga's 26th volume in 2012.
