posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
The Galerie Michael Jansen in Berlin, Germany will launch a solo exhibition of new art by the illustrator and anime/videogame designer Yoshitaka Amano on January 18. The "Yoshitaka Amano: Deva Loka" exhibit will feature over 30 new works — several of which can be seen on the gallery's website. (In the linked page, select the "WORK" button.) It will run until February 29. After the Berlin program ends, Amano's works will be exhibited at "Anime: High Art - Pop Culture," a show which will run at the Deutsches Film Museum in Frankfurt, Germany until August 3, and at Denmark's Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in the fall. The Japan Foundation in Cologne, Germany will also screen a selection of Amano's films during its "Global Eurasia" exhibition this spring.
In addition to his solo art career, Amano designed characters in Time Bokan, Yatterman, Vampire Hunter D, and other anime. He also created the conceptual artwork for various videogames in the Final Fantasy series. He splits his time between Tokyo and New York, and recently had solo exhibitions in Los Angeles, Geneva, and Hong Kong.
