Was anything Attack No. 1 ever subbed aside from live action?

There's a lot you could say she forgot. It could have just as easily been a list of unconventional sports anime or unlicensed sports anime. There's just so much of it out there.

The new poll has the incorrect link.

Should be this:

A couple that did make it here that I like:

Bamboo Blade (kendo)
I rated this "Excellent" because I really enjoy the comedy and slice of life aspects, but mostly because I love the characters. The kendo matches were interesting and entertaining.
The show was just generally a lot of fun.

Princess Nine (baseball)
It has been a long time since I watched this and I really do not remember much about it except that I did like it, especially the main characters.
I need to watch it again before I rate it.

I realize that the list was not intended to be comprehensive and I am definitely not saying that these two shows should have been on the list in place of any that were.

If Shiki is enough of a sport anime to be included, I would personally also have included Saki. Both are amazing anime, even though they are very different.

I'm glad that Ginban and Baseball Girls were mentioned, really miss those two. But I was disappointed that Bamboo Blade wasn't, the show has some pretty exciting Kendo matches, nice character developments, the girls are cute and good use of comedy. If shogi was mentioned, why wouldn't kendo? Same goes with Saki and Chihayafuru (if you could exclude the guys).

I'm surprised that Princess Nine didn't make it. But with Taisho Baseball Girls, I guess there's no room for another girls' baseball anime on the list.

One thing I love about old-school sports anime with women in them is how macho they actually are. The girls kill themselves TO BE THE BEST and whining (and boyfriends) are just obstacles to overcome to achieve success in their sport. Doesn't the heroine of Attack No. 1 choose to go to an important volleyball game over her sick boyfriend in the hospital? SO AWESOME. Very Happy Or like that popular description of the SWAN manga: so girly it goes all the way around and ends up being macho.

I just hope someday we get an Asahniagu anime. Naginata is the coolest martial art ever.

Actually, Kaleido Star was the first one that sprang to mind for me, even though it's not technically sports.
Good to see the list was open-minded enough to include it. Smile

To me, karate, ninjutsu, kung fu, and taekwondo are.

The Survey:

[rant]
As a matter of principle, I'm not voting for any ongoing shows, only for those who ended their run, so shows like Ansatsu Kyōshitsu or Kuroko no Basket won't get my vote, even if I think that they were better than any of the 1-cour shows
[/rant]

I was conflicted quite a bit between the numerous options (Junketsu no Maria, Tokyo Ghoul √A, Durarara!!×2 Shō and Sengoku Musō, for example), but I chose Death Parade, because it showed the greatest emotional versatility and had among the uniquest concepts out of the shows on the list.

I was hoping for Angelic Layer, on the same technicality. It does have the "classic sports story" formula.

(And if poker can broadcast several hours a week on ESPN, mind-controlled martial-artist doll tournaments totally count as a sport.)
