Poor Mel. Her last stream was her writing messages to all the other girls. I guess she knew.

A little background. This is not the first time Mel has done something like this. Though it really seems that it was never intentional. From what I understood from other members, she's really goofy in real life. Sadly, this time apparently it was something that breached the confidentiality clauses pretty hard, so the company has to enforce its own rules, or risk setting a precedent. I doubt anyone is happy about this. Very sad.

Probs another problem that comes with them being on the Japan stock exchange or whatever, they had to honour their investors with whatever potential malicious info she leaked and let her go.

Real shamespoiler[, but we'll no doubt be seeing her again before the year ends since this is a profession she's invested a lot into.]

If what is said about her is true, i.e. her goofiness often makes her prone to unintentional blunders, companies might have to think twice before recruiting her...

Or she might go indie, who knows...

ANN once again using Internet Explorer for their reporting, over 10 days later.

Just a heads up, the current tabloid hot topic drama in this realm is mafumafu and Mikeneko....

I certainly wouldn’t hire her because I’d never be able to trust her not to “accidentally” (I use that term loosely since we don’t know if it was an accident or not) leak information. Not everyone has a right to know confidential information about a company, and in this case I would say she didn’t have a right to know it either. She’s the talent, not the management.

Hopefully this lesson teaches her to grow up and she learns what is and is not appropriate to share with others.

I have to agree with JohnHawk

This is a weeks old story that everyone that's plugged into the Vtuber scene has known all about.

Whomever handles covering the Vtuber news at ANN dropped the ball on this one. A longtime Hololive member being terminated is the kind of major Vtuber that I expected ANN to report on closer to when the news first broke.

Something the talent themselves sometimes forget is that ultimately, being a vtuber is a job, working for someone else, under someone else's rules. Talent = employee, character = job title, agency = employer. Not counting the vtubers who are able to stay independent, the character almost always belongs to the agency. It's of no comfort to fans of Yozora Mel but if I also talked too much about what I do at work, or my outside behavior impacted my ability to do my job, I too can expect to get canned.

I'm honestly surprised ANN covers even this much of a niche(by this site's viewership) hobby. And most news related to this that they cover pretty much boils down to "Being personable/individualistic while working for a Corp kinda blows".

Those of us not plugged into the Vtuber scene (which I'm estimating is the bulk of ANN's readership) haven't head about this, though, so there's still a point to reporting about it even if the matter wasn't caught at the time. You also have to remember that reporting about the Vtuber scene isn't ANN's main thing.

As for the issue in the article, as a teacher I have to get refresher training at the beginning of every school year about confidentiality laws concerning student information, and getting careless about that is grounds for reprimand or (in repeat and/or extreme cases) termination. Part of being a professional at anything is controlling loose lips.

Having worked a bit with the legal representation in cases regarding "leaking" of sensitive information (different industry mind you), you would honestly be surprised at how much sensitive and classified information bottom wrung people have daily access to and receive warnings about, but that gets shared constantly. One of the simplest and earliest I personally encountered was sharing of private medical information. This happens a lot in emergency rooms and urgent care centers, where on a busy day you'll get medical staff rather loudly discussing a patient's information, by name, in the presence of not just non-treating staff, but other patients. This is a HIPAA violation that can easily get a practitioner and/or facility in a lot of trouble.

A little more "down to earth" is that spot in most any grocery store or big-box retailer where you can do check cashing, use western union, etc (sometimes it's at the returns desk, sometimes it's not). You often hear people - customers and employees - in easy listening volume and distance, discussing personal financial details, or plainly stating out loud stuff like their full social security number. Was once in line for a return and kid in front of me was cashing a check. I assume it was his first paycheck, but he had to call mom to get his social security number, and he's got the phone on speaker, with her calling it out loudly as he's then repeating it while punching it into the pinpad.

Speaking of retail, a common classified/sensitive information leak issue that comes up are sales figures. Most retailers share sales numbers with even the basic cashiers as a means of driving home optimism, or highlighting success, etc. A lot of times that information is meant to be kept private - only employees are meant to know, not outside parties as the company hasn't publicly released the numbers yet. This can even apply to merchandise sales, like holiday sales, whereby employees may know a sale is coming or what is included in the sale because they're helping get the merchandise pre-staged, but the notice of the actual sale is not supposed to be public yet. There's usually several mentions about not sharing such info outside the relevant business in onboarding and subsequent training documents and videos, but this gets violated quite often as well.

Long winded, but the point being that it's not terribly hard for even "the talent" to be privy to fairly sensitive information just in doing their routine job. Don't know what she leaked, but it could easily be something like planned "surprise" events or planned collaborations - stuff she'd clearly need to know and prepare for, but for various reasons would clearly not want to have put out there before time.
