Everything I hear sounds great so far. You go, Kevin!

(But of course Twitter is hell on Earth and people are already whining about it being "woke" because he's a "pronoun person" or that he hasn't voiced many big roles before)

I'm surprised they even got anyone new, Mario says very little, Charles Martinet has recorded a lot of dialogue so they could just get away with reusing those lines forever.

Mario does have some new phrases in this game (most notably "Wowie zowie!") so I think they'd rather keep a voice actor on hand for any new stuff they may come up with for him to say.

I think a lot of this has to do with the movie. I believe they are trying to "rebrand" him a little bit. Obviously not any significant change, but they'll probably give him more personality and treat this as the new era of Mario.

Good for him. He sounds good.

That being said,
Recasts ALWAYS bum me out, and they especially bum me out when the actors don't acknowledge the actor they're replacing in their announcement. I'm sure some sort of communication occurred offline, and there's no rules for this sort of thing but it can't help but put a bad taste in my mouth.

Congratulations!

Will he also be voicing Wario and Waluigi too?

Mario characters aren't actually known for being able to speak a full sentience, so it really has zero impact.

In fact I am pretty sure Peach's letter and the ending of Mario 64 is the most I've ever heard her talk in a Mario game. All Mario has to say is "here we go!" and that's the entire franchise since 1996.

That's generally been my opinion, and why I didn't care if Martinet didn't voice the movie Mario or cartoon Mario. Mario's voice has never exactly been a huge concern for me at all or a presence in any of the games. In all my favorite games he doesn't even talk at all like SMB3, RPG, and World. Arguably the most his voice mattered was in the Mario and Luigi games where the characters only communicate in gibberish in various tones.

Good luck to him. He seems to have the cadence down.

If that's true, count me in. As much as I love Mario, I don't like how he is treated as a blank slate of an everyman when plenty of games have proven that Mario has a lot of personality.

Because they don’t have to?

Blunt as that may sound that’s not really a thing hence why it doesn’t generally happpen.

Did Charles Martinet do that when he took over for Captain Lou Albano?
