Funny, I just started thinking about these movies again today. The final arc and overall ending of Haikyu ended up being an all time favorite finale for me, I really hope they're still able to capture what made it great in the short runtime they'll have. As great as the anime has been, can't say I'm not nervous.

The staff from To The Top is still great, and it already features a lot of people from S1-3 to begin with.

I’m still torn on this. Karasuno vs Nekoma could work in a movie format, if it was just that one match. And depending on how long the movie is, of course.

Everything else after that arc? I would be disappointed if they tried to cram in the remainder of nationals and the entirety of the post-Time Skip arcs into the second movie. Unless they’re making these films the longest anime movies ever released, a lot is going to be cut or rushed. I’ve even seen Japanese HQ fans expressing concern about this.

Maybe some people saw some stuff in the post-Time Skip arc as padding or unnecessary, but I genuinely love Haikyuu’s final arc and wanted to see it fully animated.

With this and Quintessential Quints, I’m really hoping this “turning remaining arcs/finales into movies” doesn’t become a trend with other series :,) I’m wondering if there’s a growing aversion against producing long-running anime series (i.e anime that are close to 80-100+ episodes.)

I'm still not on board with the whole two movies thing. Assuming they're longer movies (around the 2.5 hour mark) their combined runtime is only about 15ish episodes, and considering season 3 is 10 episodes and just one match, I think that's just not enough time to do the story justice. Hopefully we'll at least get OVAs like the Land vs Air about what the other teams are doing. I'll still watch the movies and enjoy them, but this "we'll just make the next arc be a movie" trend sucks.

Maybe the "Final" in the movie titles is just referring to nationals finals, and then the last story arc get it's own season. Unfortunately that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

I wish we were getting seasons instead of movies, but hopefully it turns out well. Especially for these matches.

As an anime-only fan, I am fervently hoping these two movies just cover the nationals finals. What little I've heard about what comes after--something about college, I think, though I guess I'll find out soon enough--lines up with the sentiment that it's better suited to seasons rather than a few movies.

I guess it's a small comfort to know that if all the post-nationals stuff gets a really rushed treatment, the manga is done and out there for me to pick up for a better experience. Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop
