I kind of wish 3 FES and 3 Portable got released as a duology, but I'm just glad more people are going to play these games at all.

Pretty unfortunate they're coming out the day before Fire Emblem Engage, might end up putting them on the backburner for awhile as a result.

I'm sure this release will inspire many modders to implement FES things in P3P now that it will be on PC. For example, there is a PSP patch to restore the animated cutscenes that were cut so the game would fit on a UMD. I'm sure mods like that will be ported over.

Strongly recommending everyone do a playthrough with the female protagonist at least once. Not because of my strident feminist agenda but because the character writing is much more engaging and thoughtful. If you like your nameless protagonists with some personality, the female route is the way to go.

Also you get to bang Akihiko :3c

This was not the comment I expected, but it was the comment I needed. Lol
Is this a rerun suggestion or is it safe to play first without losing much in the way of story/lore? I think I heard something about the female protag losing out on some important bits, but it might be the wrong game. Also frustrating to have no lesbian options considering my preferences, but hey, I'll date fictional guys if I like them.

I don't think the female protagonist loses out so much as it's just... different. There's some content in FES that's just not in P3P but that's regardless of gender. There are a lot of different social links, but I don't think that's a major loss. The male protagonist is a total blank slate nothing. Some people read that as him having depression, but regardless, the female protagonist has much more personality and is way more fun to play as. I remember playing her for the first time and feeling so much joy and power from having a player character I can truly map onto and thinking, "Wait, is this what boys feel like all the time when they play video games?"

As for the lack of lesbian options, you can still choose (and bang) Elizabeth as your Velvet Room attendant. Plus, some of the female social links are basically unchanged from the original and those were romantic so it's pretty gay.

If I recall correctly, the plot is the same, but the protagonist has different responses because she has a different personality (male MC is subdued). The biggest difference are the social links, as she has several unique ones that replace some of the male social links. For example, you link with most of the male team members instead of most of the female team members. More importantly, these alternative social links are much better written. I heard that the author is different, though I couldn't immediately verify that.

I've only played the female protagonist route, but it never felt it was anything less than a full experience. There is a scene that I think would have helped spoiler[the boys trying to sneak a peak at girls in the hot spring is a bit confusing from the girls side] but that's just a one off comedy scene.

I remember being a bit disappointed when Persona 4 Golden didn't go down the route of a female alternetive protagonist. Also wish the female protagonist featured a bit more in the spin offs. I think she only appeared in Q2, but there's no reason for her not appear in the fighting or the rythmn games (story excepting, but there's always a way around that).

Modders are already working on porting whatever mods they can from the emulated PSP version. They're also planning a remaster project because the pre-rendered backgrounds in this port look REALLY bad. And I don't mean low resolution, I mean like Atlus ran them through an upscaler and it did a terrible job.

Also would love FES over Portable. Portable stripped so many features and gameplay from the original and turned it into a basically visual novel.

That's a weird way to spell Ken Razz

Wait isn't Ken the youngest of them all? It's been a long time since I've played. If so red flag. I would also like to say for those who have not played it yet that there is no actual "banging" as some commentators have said. There is a lot of sexual language/innuendos where the game really deserves the ESRB M rating no doubt however.

I for one am happy for the PSP version because while the FES basically has the expansion (think XC2 Torna but instead a sequel instead of a prequel) to the game it was HARD as nails so much to where I just gave up. Looking forward to finally playing the female route. Also late game I got tired of "free moving" in the game and just wanted press a button just to say "let me talk to this person and shop here".

I wouldn't necessarily say there isn't. It's not outright shown or made explicitly clear, but the implication is there. And not just in Persona 3, but 4 & 5 as well. But also yes, Ken is a major red flag.

^ Now 4 I can see it being more likely because that game turned up the sex factor to 11 compared to 3. Have not played 5 yet since my PS3 broke and I hated the PS4 hardware compared to my new PC I built at the time but I trust you on that one.

Yeah, there's a clear implication when the screen goes dark with the caption, "You spent a long time together..." Also, the last Velvet Room attendant scene doesn't really leave much room for any other interpretation.

And yes, the Ken thing is bad. Overall I adore the game's attitude toward sex but there's really no excuse for letting you date a child. Still, I usually ignore it and focus on all the things it does well.[/i]
