At the beginning of the story Mutta and Hibito talk about going to the moon and Mars as kids but given where they are in the story now, and how science-fact based the series is, I can't imagine it ending with a Mars mission unless there is a major time skip, even with Hibito starting the series on a moon mission.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if we get more anime once this apparently penultimate arc closes up. There is just so much good (if often contrived) drama to mine. I think it remains popular.

It has sort of written itself into a little bit of a hole for an impactful final arc. The brothers have both gotten to the moon and have accomplished their greatest professional desires. Neither are assigned to the next big mission (to the asteroid) so I don't know what the non-personal stakes would be. Personal stakes being actually dealing with their romances and hugely inflated public prominence.

As he says though, an "arc" for this author can take years, so a big project for them could come their way and develop beginning to end. The two can't really work together too well though, as they now work for different agencies... Maybe they deal with the dropped ball of this "future of space exploration" and address what is currently one of the biggest factor in space travel- private enterprise. They have featured the new company of the old guy a little, I could see that being a focus, Namba returning to Japan, basking in his glory, assisting them. In that sense I guess they could get Hibito in there too, creating a multinational cooperative in Japan with a private enterprise.
