I honestly find it hilarious that even the manga is acknowledging that Sotsu was garbage, though at this point I'd rather just Higurashi be laid to rest at this point.
And Satokowashi isn't even being adapted in the Gou manga, though I didn't have as many problems with that as Sotsu.

why though, gou/sotsu is conceptually interesting and is somewhat of an interesting expansion of satoko's character. It can be salvaged.

It's not, though??
The Gou manga was already different to begin with, so Sotsu's story is fundamentally incompatible with it. It's only natural for the flow of events to change so it can get a unique conclusion.

Most of Sotsu is already just scenes from Gou repurposed. Removing all of that, there wouldn't be even enough original material to adapt at all.

I haven't read it so I had no clue, I guess my statement was a big assumption in that case. I might have to read it then, a different take on Gou seems interesting.
