Easily one of the all-time greats. While his work as an animation director is more prolific, it's his work in character designs where he truly became iconic, despite not really doing anywhere near as much of it. After Fist of the North Star, he essentially became the icon of "manly" visual aesthetic in anime, as shown in his designs for titles like Future War Year 198X, Government Crime Investigation Agent Zaizen Jotaro, Sakigake!! Otokojuku, & Salaryman Kintaro, Rokudenashi Blues 1993, etc., and there's no doubt that others were influenced by his knack for this style over the decades. His debut in character design was even Jean Valjean Monogatari, which looks to be one of the manliest takes on Les Miserables ever made.

That being said, though, Suda was also a versatile designer, as seen with stuff like Toward the Terra (the 1980 movie by Toei), Mach Go Go Go: Restart/Speed Racer X, Gundoh Musashi (though that mess of a show rarely even matched a shadow of Suda's original designs), & even Yokai Watch. Just so much talent that helped define a distinct visual style for various anime over the decades.

RIP

Suda's art style pushed anime character designs towards a more realistic direction that I really liked, and has very few adepts nowadays. May he rest in peace.

I'm gonna remember him as the designer of the most coolest characters in anime history from Kenshiro to Raoh. You're already missed...
