I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to develop a feature based off of one of the last things your wife ever made.

I'm happy that Morosawa's vision will finally be seen. I hope viewers will be respectful in their criticism of the film when discussing the script.

Yeah, because all the "Jesus Yamato" jokes will write by themselves.

Over a 100 drafts... I can't even begin to imagine the amount of time and effort that the late Morosawa-san put into this story. I hope that this movie may serve as a vindication of her, given the unfair demonization she and her husband got from the Western fandom in the aftermath of Seed Destiny. At least, you can't say they are half-assing this or just rushing it though without a thought for a simple cash garb.

I seriously doubt it. Kira is one of the most popular Gundam characters of all time. Doing a sequel movie after 20 years and then killing off such a popular character would take serious balls. Anyone significant getting killed off seems unlikely. Hell, they even retconned the only significant protagonist death in either SEED or Destiny.

I'm expecting something safe like Endless Waltz that will cement what Destiny implies will happen in the timeline just like EW did with Wing. Releasing the movie at this point seems like fan service to SEED fans and to honor the writer. I can't see them doing anything that would be hugely controversial in the SEED fandom.

It'll get better production than that Wing sequel on the Moon. That was just a radio drama.

I wonder if this'll follow the mirroring of the UC timeline and the CE timeline? Destiny was Zeta, SEED itself was just a Gundam reboot. So I wonder if this'll keep pace with that.

I feel the later half of Destiny was pretty bad, but there's no reason it can't redeem itself.

I never thought of that but I did read sometimes that the original premise of SEED seemed like a "Gundam vanilla +Wing" considering the handling of Kira against those the other guys who steal Orb's mechas. Then again, the whole conflict between Kira and Athrun is removed in the latter half so I don't know if Rau was meant to be another way "Char clone" despite Athrun being the one who embodied more of those takes earlier.

The most common complaint I hear about Destiny is that Shinn should have stayed as the protagonist but would have been doing the same exact thing as Zeta which already the first SEED tried staying away from by turning Kira and Athrun into allies. From what I read Fukuda's plan with Destiny was just meant to be narrative handled by three different main characters but he regrets that Kira got very little (which kinda makes sense considering he doesn't give him a more personal struggle until the final where he confronts Durandal).

Astray was pretty much ZZ gundam so by that analogy the movie would be like Char counterattack, but there's no equivalent to Char in SEED (unless they pointless try to have another shoot at Kira Vs. Athrun which would seriously suck). So I think it'll be more its own things. I'm guessing it'll feel more like a filler/side story with some random faction showing up out of nowhere and somehow being super powerful and having another doomsday device.

As far as destiny, I think it was pretty bad from the beginning but it was always awkward that they tried to write Shin out of his own story (not that I don't understand the idea, what a worthless character) for the second part. But imo the entire thing should be made non cannon and they could made the movie as a direct sequel to SEED.

I could possibly buy that she could have done that many in the... *checks timeline* ten years between Destiny and her death. It says nothing on how many she actually finished.

It's been ages since I watched Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny, I actually really enjoyed SEED despite some of the decisions the show took around the middle but the rest of the series was fine and I consider it a good entry point for someone who wants to get into Gundam. Destiny on the other hand... I really didn't like it, the only good things are the music, and some of the animation and mecha designs. I just hope that the movie will address some of the mistakes that happened in Destiny[/spoiler]
